KABAYO-KABAYUHAN

The first time you hear the name of this game, you can give a close guess on what this is all about. Basically, the game is like riding on a horse, but instead, a bamboo stick is used as a substitute horse.

Kabayo-kabayuhan is a group game (at least 2 groups) and no specific number of players is required, so long as all the groups have equal number of players.

MECHANICS
  1. Form a group of equal number of players each.
  2. Each group is given a bamboo stick with equal length (approximately 3 meters).
  3. There will be a starting line and a mark point on the other side (opposite the starting line) where the groups will swerve to the direction of the starting line (which also serves as the finish line).
  4. Two persons at a time will ride on the bamboo stick and run till they reach the finish line.
  5. After the first two member, then another pair, and so on, until all the members have ridden on the stick.
  6. The group who's pair of members who last ride on the bamboo, reaches the finish line first, wins.
  7. There are at least three rounds.

ABILITY (scale out of 5)
  1. Running (6/5) - of course, what's the use if you just walk, right?
  2. Holding (3/5) - to be able to grasp and hold the bamboo long enough
  3. Swerving (5/5) - yes this is the most difficult part
  4. Fast and strong legs (5/5) - connected to running ability

EXPERIENCE

Actually, one reason why I enjoyed this game is because I was a winning member in the winning group -- our group won all the rounds . In fact, the game is nerve-wracking especially when you play very competitive. While you are the one running, you actually would not worry about the other groups. You would not have enough time and reason to look or even just glance over the other groups and compare if they are faster than you. Your mind would completely be focused on what you're goal is; hence, you would just run. Well, that's what I experienced in that game.

After my every turn, I found myself catching my breath. The game is really fun and exhausting at the same time. The laugh trip, however, is less compared to the sis-sis-ki.

But definitely, it's worthwhile to play this game. After a long and tiring acad day, this is a good way to release your stress, all the games in PE in general.

RECOMMENDATION
  • Use two bamboos at a time. Wohoo!
  • Instead of running while riding the bamboo, hopping can be a more challenging move.

LESSON OF THE GAME

Go after the goal with all your best. Do not make time to compare with others.

SIS-SIS-KI

This game is definitely not a manila-origin.

Sis-sis-ki is a game of two groups, each member of the group has a counterpart in the other group. It can consist of any number of players so long as the groups have equal numbers.

The main objective of the game is to win over your opponent in the other group. And the group with the most number of wins is the champ.

MECHANICS
  1. Form two groups with equal number of players.
  2. The members of each group should line horizontally (side by side to his teammates) facing his counterpart in the other group.
  3. When the referee signals the game, each gamer should aim to touch the heel (any heel--left or right) of his oponent. Each player's move, however, is limited to only backward and forward (i.e., no sideward moves are allowed).
  4. The team who's able to get (touch the heel from the other group) at least 3 persons from the other group, wins.
  5. There could be a double or help move. If for example, you already won over your opponent, then you can help your teammates in defeating his counterpart (tag team hehe).
  6. There are 3 rounds.

SKILLS (scale out of 5)
  1. Strategy (5/5) - kelangan uli ng UP brain cells ito
  2. Strong hands, palms, and arms (5/5) - you'll never know what those parts can do to help you
  3. Diving ability (3/5) - parang swimming lang ito eh
  4. Crawling ability (4/5) - yeh believe me kelangan ito!
  5. Flexibility (3/5) - this might also help you in reaching for that heel

EXPERIENCE

The first time we played it, I thought the game was actually dull. It was until the next meeting when we played the game again that I learned to appreciate it. On that 2nd game, in fact, my opponent in the other team and I were both competitive so the three rounds ended up without anyone of us touching the other's heel. Actually, we were laughing the whole time since however hard we both tried to win over the other, still no one won. Ansayang laugh trip lang! And as expected, after the game, our palms were soiled and dirty. But it's worth it, anyway!

RECOMMENDATION
  • Instead of touching the heel with hands, use elbows for more exciting effect.
  • Tie the feet of every gamer so that the movements of the feet are more limited. Hahaha I think this is a good idea actually.

LESSON OF THE GAME

Laugh till you fart.

BASKET NG PRUTAS

From the name of the game itself, basically, the game follows what happens when you put another fruit in a basket already full of fruits. In consequence, the basket should lose one fruit after acquiring that new fruit.

Basket ng prutas does not require any specific number of players; nevertheless, the bigger it is, the more succesful and fun the game will be.

MECHANICS

  1. Form groups of three members each.
  2. The groups should be in a circle with large inner space (approximately with radius of 6 meters. Chika!)
  3. Each group forms a line outward of the circle facing the center of the circle (with coordinates (0,0); hence, the equation of the circle is x^(2) + y^(2) = 36.) -- so that the 1st member is at the front, the second member at his back, and the 3rd member at the backmost. Let n be the number of groups.
  4. There should be 1 taya (choose arbitrarily or toss coin or bato-bato-pick or patagalan ng "happy bertdaaaaaaaay" or yung pinaka di niyo friend) and 1 pain (not peyn ok, pa-in). Let x be the taya and y be the pa-in.
  5. The main goal of the game is not to be x, of course.
  6. x will chase y.
  7. y can choose any of the n number of groups and position himself either at the back of the 3rd member or at the front of the 1st member (anywhere but in between the members of each group).
  8. If x catches/touches y before y reahces his desired position, y is the new taya, hence y becomes the new x; and the old taya becomes the new pa-in (x becomes the new y). In short, exchange role na sila. Then go back to no. 5.
  9. If y is able to reach his desired position before x reaches him, y is now free from being the pa-in. Threfore, we will have a new pa-in. How do we know who's the new pa-in? (a) If y stands at the back of the line he choses, the person in the front of the line is the new pa-in. (b) If, on the other hand, y lines at the front, the person at the backmost of the line is the new pa-in. And x will still be x (aww). Go back to no. 5.

SKILLS (scale out of 5)
  1. UP brain cells (5/5) - kelangan magets mo kasi muna mechanics at kelangan aware ka sa nangyayari sa paligid dahil super simultaneous ang game so bawal engot
  2. Matalas na mata (4/5) - yung nakakatusok sa talas
  3. Speed and stamina (4/5) - yes nakakapagod ito lalo na kung ikaw ang taya at competitive playmates mo
  4. flexibility (3/5) - importante siya so you can easily change directions sa pagtakbo

EXPERIENCE

At the start of the game, parang ayaw mo maging taya but eventually you will enjoy the role too at maging pa-in enjoy din since you get to choose the person you want to be the next pa-in.

Actually I haven't experienced being soaked with sweat for such a long time until this game was introduced to us. It was so fun and at the same time challenging because the transitions and changing of taya and pa-in are so fast that you have to pay your full attention to the game. Consequently, I noticed that there were moments in the game that peole thought they were the new pa-in. When they saw that the current pa-in momentarily stopped in their line (pa-in can deceive actually), they assumed they were the new pa-in right away and ran away from the line, which actually impaired the game and caused the referee to reorganize.

But as a whole I like the game, it's fun and exciting. Since the game was very new to me and unique, I enjoyed it a lot.

RECOMMENDATION

  • Two taya and two pa-in at the same time.
  • Four members in each group can also be considered.

LESSON OF THE GAME

Don't be too assuming. Looks can deceive.
